Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Are you accepting new clients?
A: Yes.
Q: How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?
A: The only way to know for sure is to meet me first for a quick consult. Please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation on the "HOME" tab above or via phone at (424) 625-9805. You may also email me through the "CONTACT" tab.
Q: What happens during the first session?
A: The initial session is 85 minutes. It is the time for you to start to share your story, discussed current challenges that has brought you to therapy, talk about your goal(s), and how we may be able to work towards your goal(s) together.
Q: How often will we meet?
A: During the intake, we will determine together a treatment plan that makes sense as different clients have different needs for therapy. This can vary from weekly sessions to more infrequent sessions.
Q: How long does therapy take?
A: The length of therapy can vary, depending on the type of therapy, specific issues addressed, individual experiences, and personal commitment. It can range from a single session to several years, depending on your goals and the progress you achieve. The initial session is 80 minutes and subsequent sessions are 50 minutes.
Q: I feel like I have my problems under control. Do I really need therapy?
A: The feeling that you are not suffering enough to deserve mental health treatment or seek the support of a therapist (a.k.a. mental health impostor syndrome) is real. Therapy is goal dependent. Sometimes there isn't always a clear issue that brings a client to therapy but a sense that their life could be "better." Some people may have already experienced a positive shift in the way they want to live their lives but need someone outside their circle of friends and family to help them realize the full potential of this change. Please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation on the "HOME" tab above or via phone at (424) 625-9805. You may also email me through the "CONTACT" tab.
Q: Do you provide in-person or online counseling?
A: I do both in person at our location in South Fort Worth and online via a secure and easy-to-use tele-health platform. Established clients can also hold some sessions by telephone, if needed.
Q: Is online counseling right for me?
A: Although there are many advantages of online counseling (convenient, effective, keeps us safe from infectious diseases), it is not right for everyone. Online counseling (tele-therapy) works best for those with mild to moderate symptoms (not people who are suicidal or in crisis), are comfortable using technology, and have a quiet, private place to have their sessions.
Q: Who do you work with?
A: I provide counseling for adults who reside in the following states:
I can see people outside of the United States with the permission of the country's behavioral health department. I have an integrative and culturally sensitive approach to both the immediate and long term needs of the client. Growing up in a culture where traditional talk therapy is perceived as unnatural, I specialize in brain/body based therapies such as Brainspotting. I have extensive experience working with college students, neurodivergent, culturally diverse, and LGBTQ+ clients.
Q: Are there any issues or types of clients that you DON’T work with?
A: I only work with adults aged 18+.
Q: What theoretical approach do you use?
A: My approach is integrative. During the first session, I conceptualize the client from a biological, social, and psychological standpoint. Biological can mean a genetic predisposition or atypical brain function, social pertains to how a client processes the world, and environmental refers to external factors that impact a person's life such as culture. I am a certified as a brainspotting practitioner and consultant. But when appropriate I can do other modalities such as but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Client-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness techniques . I believe in a holistic approach and with written permission can coordinate continuity of care with other practitioners as needed. Please reach out for a free 15 minute consultation on the "HOME" tab above or via phone at (424) 625-9805. You may also email me through the "CONTACT" tab.
Q: What is Brainspotting?
A: Brainspotting is a therapy that reveals a client's unprocessed traumas through fixed eye positions. Specific eye positions each link to their own “brainspot,” an area of the mind that retains thoughts and emotions. Focusing on a specific spot can help unlock hidden mental challenges or blocks.
Q: Do you prescribe medication?
A: No. If you want to be evaluated for psychiatric medication, either contact your primary care physician or a psychiatrist. If you are already taking medication, I can coordinate care with your doctor.
Q: Do you do full-battery conduct assessments?
A: No, I currently do not.
Q: What is the difference between a therapist, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist?
A: A mental health therapist is generally defined as someone who uses verbal communication to address mental health challenges. A psychologist is a type or therapist with a doctoral degree. I am a clinical psychologist which means I am trained in a wide variety of mental health challenges and gained advanced training in a variety of settings and populations. Although some psychologists have started to prescribe medication, psychiatrists remain the primary providers for psychotropic medication management.
